Who's the Comte?

I’ve been reading and attempting to transcribe a letter, written by Lady Colin Campbell in 1888 to Le Figaro, in which she’s trying to get work as their London correspondent covering society news.

In the first sentence she mentions Le Comte Leon, who has told her that Le Figaro might be interested in her work, but the surname of Le Comte is unclear.

Can anyone help decipher the writing and reveal the identity of the mysterious Comte?

It appears to be something like "Ininsgach" but that's not right.

Any thoughts?

  1. Hi Anne,

That looks like "Muisgech" to me...the first letter strikes me as an M.

A very cursory Google search turns up a Marina Muisgech (apparently famous enough to be included in Laure Junot's "Memoirs of Celebrated Women" in the 1830s...maybe a relative?) So...a tenuous lead...

  2. Ah...per Mike Mawson's post on VICTORIA...that Google mention appears to be a misspelling of Minszech...she's "Marina Minszech" elsewhere.

  3. I think it's Count Leon Mniszech, son of painter Andrzej Jerzy Mniszech. See here for their family tree: http://www.sejm-wielki.pl/b/psb.18609.8
